Residential Treatment in East Sussex and Surrounding Areas
Residential treatment is an effective way of tackling a wide variety of issues including depression, anxiety, drug dependency, alcohol dependency and behavioural addictions. David can offer an assessment appointment at his Canterbury or London offices to help you decide if this kind of treatment would be right for you.
A typical residential programme will last 4 weeks but both the programme length and the content can be tailored to meet your needs. It is recommended that residential treatment is followed by ongoing aftercare counselling once you have returned home to help maintain your recovery.
Residential clinics benefit from utilising multi-disciplinary teams of staff. This allows for clients to be assessed from a number of viewpoints, so that an individual care plan can be drawn up accordingly. This will include supervised, medicated detoxification if necessary. On admission you will be seen by a member of the medical team – normally a nurse, GP or consultant psychiatrist – who will prescribe withdrawal medication if needed.
All centres will focus on abstinence from the problematic substance or behaviour using a combined approach. This will commonly incorporate elements of ‘The Twelve Steps’, which has proven effectiveness for a wide range of addictions, and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). CBT focuses on how thoughts and feelings influence behaviour, so it can be useful in tackling depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), various forms of anxiety, stress, substance abuse, and eating disorders.
While at the centre you will engage with a mixture of activities aimed at providing you with the skills to lead a more fulfilling life once you have returned home. These can include one-to-one counselling sessions, group therapy, relapse prevention workshops, educational lectures and 12-Step meetings. You may also take part in holistic therapies aimed at improving both physical and mental health, such as yoga or acupuncture.
For clients living in East Sussex, there are clinics in the surrounding areas where admissions can be arranged very quickly. Clinics in nearby Kent and West Sussex specialise in treating dual diagnosis patients, with excellent levels of psychiatric and nursing support. The centre in West Sussex has a tranquil location only a few minutes from the sea, with some rooms benefiting from a sea view, and the clinic in Kent is set within its own peaceful grounds.
Both clinics encourage clients to take their meals in shared dining rooms which offer a choice of meals and can cater to individual dietary requirements where necessary. At both centres each client has use of their own well-appointed room with telephone, television and en-suite facilities. The Kent clinic also provides wheelchair access and specially designed accommodation for patients with a disability and complex physical needs.
